HOW TO HAVE THE WORST FAMILY SESSION EVER....
Let me paint the picture... Stay tuned for the end where I tell you exactly what to do to create the most relaxing and perfect session for a large family. Because, I have it figured out and figure every Mama (and wife) could use some pointers....First off, let me show you how I failed.
Last year, I did everything wrong! I want to teach you what NOT to do when you are scheduling your own family pictures!
Let me give you a background on what I did wrong last year, and how to plan the perfect session. Especially when your husband HATES family pictures....
Last year.
It started off by putting TOO much into my day before pictures! I had my hair done before I was supposed to get ready for pictures. Don't do that. Don't schedule a full hair cut and color backing up to when your photographer will arrive. While I loved my hair, It made me STRESSED out!! Which is not the way to set up the environment for everyone. Mom needs to be relaxed before a session, not running behind before it even starts!
I didn't feed my kids. Ok, I did. But, I didn't feed them dinner before our session! I had a roast in the crockpot but didn't feed them, I figured it would be short and we could eat afterwards. NOT A GOOD IDEA!
I ordered clothes not weather appropriate. I ordered them a few weeks before, and we looked cute. However, winter in Indiana showed up quick and fierce. Instead of going to look to adapt our outfits, I made the kids wear the clothes. We were all so cold. I scheduled our session for too late in the year. If you have little ones, look into getting on a photographer's schedule more towards September not October.
I scheduled them after my husband had to work all weekend. Let me give you a brief preview. My husband does NOT like pictures. He dreads them. He ONLY does them, because he loves me. And, even that....might be pushing the amount of his desire to do them.

All of these things made for a family who didn't care how much Mom wanted these done. They were done before we even started. Our photographer tried so hard, and got some amazing shots. However, the kids were DONNEEEE!!!
When everyone is grumpy, it is hard to appreciate what others are doing for you. So I vowed to change it this year. Next blog will tell you how I changed my whole day to make our family pictures work!
